Apps

My son has been telling me for awhile that I should Google to save my documents. He said that then I don't have to worry about if I have my disk or flashdrive. I can see now that what he said could be something that I might use. I would be nice to get started on something at home and finish it at work. Especially since I make alot of the signs fo rthe library and I have access to clip art at home that I don't have at work.
It will take practice, and reminders but I just might make use of this one long after the class.

thing 18-PBWiki

I guess it is OK. I would rather do other things like play games or talk to family when I am online. I guess I am to shy of a person to want to share my stuff with people I don't know. If I did this with just my family group I think I might be able to get more use out of it. But for this class I guess it was an interesting thing to use. Though I really don't see our library using it for anything in the near future.

Wiki Thing #17

Wiki's to me, while interesting, are something that I am really not sure of. I think that is what I find most interesting. Also the amount of people that will add to sites just because they can is amazing. I would be wondering if I was saying it correctly etc. It makes me think tht if everyone could add to it how accurate could it be. However if it is something like a book club or discussion page it could work. I still would be reluctant to do it, but I am sure other people wouldn't have that issue.

#16 2.0

I should have read the Wikipedia part first and then it might not have been so scary. All the information was definitely an overload. I agree that libraries need to change with the times, but we need to stay a "library". Libraries are places to get books and information in a way that is not expensive. My Dad comes to the library almost everyday to read the Omaha newspaper. He could get that paper delivered to his house but why should he when, as a taxpayer, he has access to it at the library. Libraries can and should be for people of all ages and incomes. While I have fun with my computer at home there are many people who can't or don't want to do that sort of thing. So libraries need to remember that!! Also I don't believe that a computer will ever replace curling up in a chair with a good book.

Slideshare

This was better than I thought it would be. It was fun looking at the slide shows. In fact I spent way more work time than I should have looking at them. I enjoyed the fun ones. I don't have to do presentations for my job(thank God) so anything like this is just for fun. Here is the link to my account: http://www.slideshare.net/tlhssc
As you can see I like cats.

Delicious

For me this is not a tool that would get used very much. I can see how it could be fun and useful if you were a perosn who did research or just surfs the web alot. I don't spend that much time doing that. Mu time on the web is usually spent doing something specific. For Nebraska Access some words that I would use are research, Geneology, magazines, databases. Most of the ones taht are already used are good. But if I were looking at just those wrods to see what Nebraska Access was I think that some of the description words are missing. If I looked at just the words used to describe it I would not think to look at that site for magazine articles, or some of the other items that are offered. I know that is just me though because I happen to be a person who looks for exact words. When I was using the delicious site I looked at things like cookies, to me that is the type of words I am used to using. Not research type of words.

Twitter

For some reason I really had a hard time with this one. I got signed up and can follow several people but I really don't see the point. I have a Facebook account and it does the same thing. But the difference with that is tose people on there are my family and friends. The twitter thing is mostly people that I haven't met. So I don't see a reason to follow what they are doing or to have them follow me. I don't see a reason for this in our Library. We aren't that big and can pretty see what we are each doing just by looking around. I could possibly see using this at work if it was a huge building where you might be wondering about someone on the top floor when you are on the bottom floor. Or possibly if you just transfered away from a job and could keep up with friends or activities. Anyway for me Twitter just isn't all that great.
